Scaffolding construction
at the site

The scaffolding construction properties are described in the specifications for each project, in relation to the work activities at a height:

  • Dimensioning
  • Load capacity and load class
  • Scaffold width
  • Access options
  • Etc.

STEP 1
PREPARATION

Prior to the scaffolding being assembled, there is consultation and a site inspection during which the assembly risks are discussed with the team. The principal contractor keeps the following documents at the site so they are available for inspection.

  • STABILITY CALCULATION
AFIX Group supplies a calculation report containing strength and stability calculations of scaffolding with standard configurations.
For non-standard scaffolding configurations (1) a custom strength and stability calculation is compiled by our engineering department.

  • ASSEMBLY DIAGRAM
In its capacity as a scaffolding constructor, AFIX Group also compiles an assembly, conversion and disassembly diagram, kept at the site for the entire duration of the works.

  • WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS
AFIX Group Services provides written instructions related to use of the scaffolding.

STEP 2
ASSEMBLY

The scaffolding cannot be used while it is being assembled.
As soon as the scaffolding has been completed, the system is checked and inspected by:

  • A basic scaffolding inspector
scaffolding constructions up to 24 m
  • An advanced scaffolding inspector
scaffolding constructions higher than 24 m

STEP 3
DELIVERY

Once the scaffolding card has been filled in and affixed to the scaffolding, the system is delivered for use and the scaffolding user becomes responsible.

The principal client ensures the safety of the scaffolding by appointing a competent person (see training 1).

He ensures:
- the use of PPE personal protection equipment (fall protection, safety helmet etc.)
- the prevention of modifications to the scaffolding constructions at the initiative of the scaffolding user

Changes to the scaffolding structure may only be carried out by the scaffolding builder commissioned by the principal contractor. This is followed by a compulsory re-inspection.

STEP 4
DISASSEMBLY

Once the work activities have been completed a scaffolding construction must be disassembled as quickly as possible, commissioned by the principal contractor.

Under no circumstances may any work activities take place during disassembly. Professional work activities can only take place if systematic dismantling of the scaffolding system is carried out.
